Grab a glass and settle in—this week, we’re balancing the timeless tradition of the vine with the dynamic koubares.

We are thrilled to welcome Voula Monoholias of Kolonaki Group, the visionary Festival Director behind Greek Wine Week. Voula takes us behind the scenes of this year’s celebration, exploring the rich heritage of Greek wine. Whether you’re a total oenophile or just looking for your next favourite summer pour, this deep dive into the Greek soul is exactly what your palate needs.

Dora and Irene are tackling the elephant in the (digital) room: AI in the workplace. While everyone is busy talking about efficiency, they’re looking at the "oops" moments.

Catch us every Sunday at 3:00 PM on 97.9 FM in Ottawa or find us on Spotify, Apple Music, and all your favourite podcast platforms.

SPEAKER_02

Είχαμε πάρει ένα δυματάκι last week, but we're back here on the Doralicious Show. Your favorite κουμas, ηρινή και τώρα.

SPEAKER_03

That is cute. That is really tried. You know, she tried.

SPEAKER_02

You know what though? I I finally felt like Easter. Like the must be not pigam. Irene and I have been going to a year Irene here in Toronto, our local church. And what I love about Senai is like it's a local church. First unit fireworks, which we love.

SPEAKER_03

Is it that bad? Thank God you have a lot of hair.

But what I do love is see how many young people have been seeing at church. I think it's the generation of people who are in their 40s and the 50s and they're heart.

SPEAKER_02

Even Greek Hollywood. Tom Hanks, Ρίδα Wilson, Never Dallas, John Semmus.

Οπότε Hollywood does Greek Easter too. 100%. Speaking of Hollywood, oh no. So I followed Jennifer Aniston. And Jennifer Aniston posted a story saying, hey, look who's on Instagram, send her a bullock. There's a new movie. Remember Practical Magic, the old movie with uh her and cock kidnapping some less? Well, it's coming a new one in September of this year. So maybe. Oh, I think they force her.

SPEAKER_03

They force her to do that.

SPEAKER_02

Να σου πω το hail a few days ago.

SPEAKER_03

SPEAKER_02

And I was wearing like sleeveless, strapless.

SPEAKER_02

She sent me some pictures.

SPEAKER_03

There is no way. And don't change your winter tires yet. No, no, no.

SPEAKER_02

Because if you do, I guarantee you the next day it will snow. So just be careful. But what do you want to say? AI. But yeah, we're proponents of AI. I love it. But I have a question for you, Irini. Do you pay for someone's work that is entirely generated by AI?

SPEAKER_03

No, I can do it myself then. I have to pay you. Look, I don't disagree. Like I'm autocristimobis for something that did no problem. No, then I can do it. Why I need you. Why would happen?

SPEAKER_02

Imagine you commission a painter or a photographer. You pay them thousands and thousands of dollars to realize that their work is AI. How would you feel?

SPEAKER_03

But again, like I understand that at some point they might use AI, the whole thing.

SPEAKER_02

And give me an analysis of the stock. I used it. Yeah, exactly. It has to be a tool, not the final product. It's a basic decency that we don't lie and mislead the court. Fair. That's what we do. I have a position, you have a position, the judge will decide. But when we argue that position, it's based on real legislation and real cases. I doubted myself at first. I'm like, and her cases were real, but she cites calls that don't exist. So for example, she said, case tave, paragraph 28. I was like, I was so shocked. Wait. So I write to the court, I write a reply fact to explain this is the problem, this is what they've said, this don't exist, there's no quote like that, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. She knows about it. She doesn't respond. We go to court, and the court and the judge looks at me, Miss Konomi. I understand you have made allegations of hallucinations of AI because that's what we call it hallucinations. That's what the court has said. And you're actually seeking cost personally against the lawyer. Your honor, nothing has changed. She doubled down on her lie. No, um I'm puzzled that there will be unfounded allegations against me. I'm like, Your honor? Just open open the cases. Like, I don't think you're understanding what I'm trying to say. So we're gonna adjourn this matter. I think you need to notify your insurer, the way Miss Konomi has advised you, and I need an explanation of these cases.

SPEAKER_03

Okay, like you made a mistake, or you use uh AI the Xerotichismo pieces, whatever, and but then still you go on after a heroter, after it's worse than the lie. Yeah. Say something, say something, you know, I'm so sorry. And you know, you are in front of a judge, like, okay, να κρυφτεί.

SPEAKER_02

SPEAKER_03

Δηλαδή the clients were present or no. Αυτό θέλω να ξέρει. Αλλά how would you handle if you're in your work AI. Is it a tool for you? Is it to do all the work? How do you guys use it?

SPEAKER_02

Don't use it to do your work. Literally, you end up with things that are wrong. It's very good for very basic searches that you need, but not your work. They submit cases that don't exist. They mislead the court, they lie. We have to sign a factum, which is our legal argument, to say, yep, I've reviewed the cases, these are authentic. You're in contempt of court. That's what the judges have called for.

SPEAKER_03

Without AI. Like, why all of a sudden you have to rely everything on AI? Like you were doing everything without AI. Why now with AI? Just because it's easy.

SPEAKER_02

They're lazy, they don't want to do the work. There's no shortcuts. Like honestly.

SPEAKER_03

Okay, tell me now in how I can be assured, or I can trust my lawyer, my any professional now that they're gonna do the work right. Or how can I make sure that they're doing the wrong the their job right? I would never want to be in this position.

SPEAKER_02

Imagine imagine your accountant use AI to file out your taxes and they're wrong. And then they have CRA Uno CRA Mita. I give an example of an artwork, you still don't want to pay for it because it's but it can really have damaging effects, and these people need to be held liable. The average person doesn't know who a good lawyer is.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, 100%.

SPEAKER_02

That's good advice to know. That's a good advice to know. But yeah, be very, very careful. Again, people need to know how to use it, not rely on it.

SPEAKER_03

And you know, honestly, when you I said sometimes, you know, when you go to the hospital, trust the doctors, you're not a doctor. When you hire a lawyer, trust a lawyer, you're not a lawyer, just go with 100% trust, right? Or wherever you go, just trust them. But this is not the case anymore. You cannot trust them 100%.

SPEAKER_02

No, calakes for mosquito AI mi pet. I'm like, in a lathos. I almost have to defend my position of why AI is wrong.

SPEAKER_03

Very interesting. Times and errors we live in.

SPEAKER_02

It's a very interesting world that we live in. But being interesting say interesting. We have Greek wine week coming up. Like Greek wine week is you learn about Greek wines, the Greek selections, for a conference, and they had a cyrtico, which I loved seeing as a different variety.

SPEAKER_03

That's why we need events like this. You know, we do make wine in Greece and good wine. Why not?

SPEAKER_02

Thousands of years of wine making.

SPEAKER_03

Why not? I know they have the amazing wine, but they have good wine too.

SPEAKER_02

So the festival director will be joining us very shortly to talk more about the events. My sister is τενζ.

SPEAKER_03

Οκ. I love that.

And I'm like, TF. Μου λέει, Dora, we just spent a full week together and I taught you this. I'm like, oh, I'm you mean I look good.

SPEAKER_03

Yes. Yes, okay, okay. You ate. No cap. No cap. Um cap.

SPEAKER_02

Like you look good, no cap.

SPEAKER_03

Okay, like the criesero C C D C no cap. Like exactly.

SPEAKER_02

Almost, not even exaggerating.

SPEAKER_03

Okay.

SPEAKER_02

It's giving.

SPEAKER_03

It's giving. It's a good thing, something. This is a good thing.

SPEAKER_02

But it depends how you use it. For example, um, you're giving me old vibes. Okay. Okay, it's giving. Okay, okay.

SPEAKER_03

Okay. You're the ten, I need you at a two.

SPEAKER_02

Energy, like your energy is like so high. You are the ten, I need you at a two. You're the ten, I need you at a two. That's what they say. Okay. Your fit isn't mastered.

SPEAKER_03

Like that doesn't make sense.

SPEAKER_02

Um he has a song called TV of and uses the term um master in the song. Like your hair, everything. Fit is mastered.

SPEAKER_03

Very complicated. It's cool, let's keep it that way.

SPEAKER_02

How about your drip is impressive?

SPEAKER_03

Then sorry, no. Like your drip is impressive, like your your outfit.

SPEAKER_02

No, your uh flair, everything.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Okay. He's a bajis. Oh yeah. Oh, the Sulena, this is too much. Katsakato, Sulana, Katsakato. Oh, that's another your ten go to two. What about sit down? Sit down, it's fine. Like just sit down. Take several seats. Several, just one.

SPEAKER_03

They love exaggeration, right? Popo. It's like you know, I don't think our generation and the previous generation or or the one after us, it was that bad. But this one is like gaps, huge gaps. Like they got a lot. Like they there is no communication there. Pula, this is my dad and my sister. No way, Pupuna. You eat, you cook, you whatever.

SPEAKER_02

And I feel as millennials, we're like the bridge between the generations of our parents and our parents and the Gen Zs. But even at the at the office, I see it. Like sometimes we have young students and then the older, and I was like, okay, you guys need a bridge. You need like go follow me. She's a snack.

SPEAKER_03

Okay, so I'm not sure. I think it's a good thing. It's a good thing. Is it like like she's amazing? Like there.

SPEAKER_02

Like she's hot. Like how do you feel? How do you feel? No, not good. Not good. No. Sorry, guys. My favorite though was with my sister. She taught us clock it. In New York walking, um, you must have plaza hotel, kidnap clock it!

SPEAKER_03

I need a bridge too. I need a bridge between me and them. She's the director of Greek Wine Week. And Vula, tell us what is happening in this city because everyone is talking about Greek wine week, abado CP24 to all social media.

SPEAKER_04

Like, just tell me more. Amazing, amazing. First of all, thank you so much for having me on behalf of Greek Wine Week. My job is done. Uh no, it's not done. It's just beginning. Uh, April 19th to April 25th. We have a week-long festival. Uh, it's not your typical festival in the sense where it's like this big festival of thousands of people. It's a festival made of 20 events this year, uh, in its third year running. Small intimate events, you know, from maybe a dozen people to maximum a hundred people, um, made up of walk around tastings, dinners, where we are honored to have actual winemakers and wine representatives from Greece in our presence to showcase the best wines of Greece, and so that we can taste and sample and enjoy uh what Greece's wine industry really has to offer. And we do this in conjunction with incredible restaurants and partners in the city, not just Greek restaurants, non-Greek restaurants too, that support the great Greek wines uh and wine industry that we have.

SPEAKER_03

Okay, so what are some events? So today is the first day, so today's uh the 19th and it's the first day. What do we have tonight, for example? If someone is listening to the show today, yes.

SPEAKER_04

So tonight we have some events that are sold out tonight, but that's okay. There's hope for tomorrow. There's lots of events that are available. We have a wonderful dinner at Mamaka's with our winemakers uh from Greece. We have uh the Bursey Tavern, which has a Sunday roast, and it's uh not Greek restaurant, but they support Greek wines, and you can have a beautiful Sunday roast at the Bercy with half-priced bottles of wine. Uh, we have an event at the Soho House. So if you're a member, you can still go to the Soho House. But if you're not, well, I mean, maybe you might consider membership next year. Uh, tomorrow we have some fantastic events. We have a really cool, fun uh parea patio party at Barneon, which is a wonderful local bar with an exceptional patio in the back. Um, and we have five five wine producers there with a walk around tasting, along with Leo Fones, uh serving up some live Greek music. If you haven't heard Athina Mali and her husband George, um, you're missing out on something.

SPEAKER_03

I'm gonna see you all there because I'm gonna be at that event.

SPEAKER_04

Yes, thank you, Jake.

SPEAKER_03

So come, please come, please come and say hi.

SPEAKER_04

Yes, the it's uh we still have some seats, some some tickets uh left for that. Also on Monday night, we have another um intimate walk around tasting at Melani restaurant uh north of the city. Uh DJ event, canopies, really cool chic chic vibe. So if you can make it out to the west end, we have something in the north end. So please check that out. All of our listings are at greekwineweek.com. So you can uh go on there under the events tab and see what's available. And of course, if you have any questions, because sometimes we get the feedback like you have so many events, we don't know which events to go to. So if you need some help deciphering that, info at greekwineweek.com, email me directly, and I'm really happy to walk you through, uh, understand what kind of thing you want to know, what kind of things about Greek wine, what kind of things you like about um social aspects. Maybe you want to walk around tasting, maybe you want an intimate dinner with one winemaker. I can I can steer you uh where you want to go.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, that's amazing. I can't wait for Greek wine week to begin because it's gonna be it is the buzz of the city. I have to say that everyone is talking about it. So Tommy Sal, just go to the website, buy a ticket, maybe try one of the events next this year, and who knows, maybe next year you go to all of the events. That's right. Yeah, okay. So I'm gonna I'm gonna go on a break. We're gonna go on a break, a small break. But before we go, I just want to say that you brought something here today. I did, I did. I brought a little wine vessel. Okay, I want to hear more about this because we do have a story behind this, so and I want to hear all about it. So let's go on a small break and uh stay tuned because Vula has something for us. Yes, and we are back, but hope you didn't forget that Vula brought something from Greece, right? You got you brought this from Greece?

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, I I am actually in Greece right now. It happens. So, what is this, Vula? So, this is a really cool device. It's called the Pythagorean Cup or the Cup of Pythagoras, and most of you know who Pythagoras was, a very famous mathematician uh from Samos, Greece, uh from ancient times. And Greeks believed that wine was something to be enjoyed. Uh, and everything that was done in Greece was done with the morals and the values that they would instill in society, and that was very important. And one of those um morals um is the concept of moderation, and the concept of moderation is actually a Greek, ancient Greek concept. So the Pythagoras cup was there to prove that. So drinking wine was a big part of their uh events and symposiums, so they would all get together and they wanted to enjoy wine, they wanted to enjoy the culture, the music, poetry, and conversation, right? Which is really what Greek Wine Week is really based on um and all about. But you know, there were always those people who would kind of take things too far and they would get greedy and they would want too much wine. So the Pythagoras cup, if you fill the cup to a normal level, you get to enjoy the benefits of wine. However, if if you fill it a little too high, all the contents drain out. There's a siphon system inside. So if you fill it too high, everything comes out and you don't get to enjoy anything. Okay, I had no idea about this. Um, it it's really cool. Now next time I see you, Irene, I'll bring it over. But you know, if it's something you want to look up, you can. It's it's online, obviously, and you can find out how the siphon system works. It's really a siphon system inside, but it was really there to teach people about the concept of moderation. And Greek uh wine week, it's not about more, it's about enjoying what there is out there and also not just enjoying the wine and tasting and exploring incredible varietals, indigenous varietals that are only unique to Greece. Um, it's really about enjoying everything that comes with it. And sometimes wine lately and alcohol gets, you know, a bad rap. Oh, it's not good for you. It's been had for many, many years. And drink responsibly in moderation with people around, with food and with the culture and conversation. It's about connection for the Greeks. And so here's my Pythagoras cup. I wish um I could show you how it works, but take my word for it.

SPEAKER_03

I've tried it before, I just don't want to get maybe have some at every event at Greek Wine Week so people can come and see the the cup. That's a great suggestion. Why not? And can I just say like let me style pan metron ariston? Yes, exactly. That's what it's about. Yeah, and yeah, wow, Pitagora secan o'clock, like uh potiri getocracy. Maybe we need that more than ever. I don't know. Wow, thanks for sharing, Gula. This is amazing. I can't wait to to go to Greek Wine Week. I hope people you know can join any event, maybe you know, a tasting at Select. I know they're doing some tastings there or a smooth. Um, and I know that people that like winemakers actually come from Greece. They're gonna be here and they're gonna be in every event. Every event has different winemakers or the same. Like if I go to the, let's say I go to all the events every day, and am I gonna see the same winemakers or different ones?

SPEAKER_04

No, you'll see different ones, some of them overlap. We also um coincided Greek wines, Greek wine week with the Wines of Greece Roadshow. So the Wines of Greece Roadshow is also happening on the Tuesday. Uh, if I'm not mistaken, it's the 21st. Um, and there are 30 winemakers from Greece. There is a trade component in the day, and in the evening, there's a consumer component. So you will see 30 winemakers, 10 of our winemakers um from Greek Wine Week, as well as 20 other winemakers. So that's not part of Greek wine week, but it's purposely designed that we are all here the same week. So we make more noise, more Greek noise. Um, so that's one thing. And then for us, the events we have, you know, we have free events like you mentioned at the schmooze, at um Select Bakery, those are bottle shops. You can go in and meet one, two, three winemakers, taste their wines. If you're interested, you buy some wines right on the spot. And then there are other events where there's just one winemaker walking through a five-course dinner. Uh, we have one event at Jacob's, which is if you haven't eaten at Jacob's, it really is one of the best uh steakhouses uh in North America. So we have a five-course dinner there on the Friday, which there are a few seats left. So if you hurry up, you might get in. Uh, so that's a very intimate tasting, very in-depth. Uh, wine, the right wine makes the right food taste better, and the right food makes the right wine taste better. So uh we work really hard to make those pairings come to life. Um, but again, you can just come to a free tasting, or you can come for $50 to Patio Parea and listen to great live Greek music, try five different uh wineries, wines from five different wineries, or a nice elaborate dinner at Jacob's, or an amazing dinner at Paros. We also have at the Myth, the Myth maybe sold out, um, uh, or close to it. So, again, a lot of our events are selling out. Um, I'm not just saying that, I'm really serious. Um, so feel free to try anything, try something small this year. So next year, you know, you get a taste for next year. Uh, or again, uh check out our website, greekwineweek.com, email us at info at greekwineweek.com if you need some help. Uh, yeah, we're here to walk you through, walk you through it all.

SPEAKER_03

Don't Kalibiti here, Kaliar Hitimera, and I can't wait to see everyone there. Whoever comes, please come say hi. And uh, I cannot wait to see the Pythagoras app. Yes, I'm bringing it. One at every event, one at every event for all our listeners, so they can come and see the magic because amazing, amazing.

SPEAKER_04

Thank you, I mean, for your time. I appreciate you. Thank you, yeah, yeah, thank you.

SPEAKER_02

It's coming. I'll kick a businesswoman, one bottle bakery, guys. But yeah, like you've gone so much attention on social media on a vague bottle. So if you how do you feel?

SPEAKER_03

Oh my god, so proud of them. Of them. Can I say that? It's been I've been working on this project for a year and a half now, and it came to life, and you know, and I was like, and I had no expectations. My container was laid for like three weeks. Catholic Easter was done, came in Megali Defteria Mas, and I was like, no expectations, it's okay, whatever. I'm bullish menabukali. I just want to say thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone. It's like Clao, Clao.

SPEAKER_02

So, one ball bakery, it solves so many issues. As young professionals, especially, we don't have time to think all the time. I'm like, no. Because I'm not a baker. I'm not. And I hated baking because there's so many things that they ask you to do and go.

SPEAKER_03

And exactly, when you try to make it to requi, you cannot buy like miakutal masticha. You have to pay for the whole box, and then if you don't use it, you have to throw it away.

SPEAKER_02

And isn't it what I'm trying to tell them? I'm gonna give her a shout out. She is Portuguese, her husband is Greek, and that's we've she had her too. Yeah, we've converted her. But yeah, almost ethics to ture my husband was so proud. He's like, he didn't expect it.

SPEAKER_03

Um that made my and like another late that made my my day. Then another lady was like, you know, I was overwhelmed. I went to through some stuff. I always make things, and this year I made nothing. And when I got your bottle, I made my chureki, I made my kulurakia, my house made like a home for Israel again, and thank you. And I'm like, okay, that's something like I'm doing something. Anyways, if you find a place that carries my product, grab a bottle, try it, let me know, message me. My Instagram is one bottle. And then please go ahead and let me know. Let me know, as a sare se and everything.

SPEAKER_02

I love it, I love it. But I'm so proud of you. I give it to all my godchildren. Like I keep giving it out because I think it's important to be at every household.

SPEAKER_03

Exactly. And you need someone like Dorothy in your life so she can support you and lift you up and help you. Thank you. Thank you, Kubara. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

SPEAKER_02

I feel like a pola rate in a pomony of the mother and see you throughout week one week.
